Wine

red ambrosia
you fell on my plate

sweeping away
all lines of restraints

turning the sun
into dark moon of dust

your ardour
wild pulse on my white palette

swirling fruit
dark plum, blackberries and spice

exploding colors,
heady spell of purple and black

on my tongue.
the wine tour guide was right

you made dining
heady and sensational delight.

Not the first time

he adores
the candle light playing on her sun-kissed skin

eyes closed, she smells of pink corals, and
orange sunset by the beach

for the first time, he is
shy and intimidated by their intimacy,

whispering softly, she says to her new lover,
do not be shy
we have been making love for days

he reaches
to touch her fullness, moonflower white

fragile as a pearl,  in his firm arms
she is sensuality,  bold and heady

on his lips,
rapture dance of the sea and the sun

he knows

as he writes and sings their music
as he draws and paints their dance

Nostalgia

forget you, i want to
as winter sky curtains my windows

blurring lips, i want to
as spring flowers garnish my garden

fading lines, i want to
as summer ocean warms my feet

smudging mirrors, i want to
as autumn leaves wither my pathway

forget you, i still could not
as winter sky drapes landscape anew

all our photographs have now
faded into black and white frames,

shadows clinging to wood pine walls,
wrapped tight in grey still memories,

regrets, i have none
though i still hover the window awning

hoping for a glimpse of your brown cap,

serene smile, i hope to find
buried under red ink stains of your letters

A peek at the family's album reveals a young solider who went to war and never returned. I am thankful for all those who serve and die for our country.   I hope they can come home and celebrate Christmas with their loved ones.  (I enjoy watching their surprise homecoming and reunion).

Shoeless

line drawn across
two squares, you in that spot,
me, on this side corner
with potted plant, small table
grey cubicles of busyness
surrounds us
like deserted islands,
we toil through
serious business,
walled hills of anonymity
unopened windows
until, you throw a
paper crane my head
laughing, I chase you

outside

shoeless

unfettered sky

Posted for Flash Fiction Friday - For the G-Man.    Our office is full of cubicles; sometimes I don't even see my office mates until it is break time or time to go home.  Well, such is life....thanks for the visit ~

Wonder woman

i am no warrior tiara princess

hand to hand combat is not my style
no lasso of truth girths my tiny waist

much less, indestructible bracelets,
super human stamina, maybe when

i juggle cooking, cleaning, laundry,
while paying bills, taking care of hearth

i am no wonder woman poster

skimpy ambitions are not for me,
red-knee boots, perfect for shoveling snow

tactical warfare is not my wont,
cunning and confidence, smarter way to be

gifted tongue i save, to whisper words
praise and joy, brave and true voice

the woman of your wonder,
that I strive to be

Muse

growing
itch in my hand
tingling spark
                   along
                          spine

ignoring
unbearable clicking,
slowly
          strangling
                        throat

until i feel like
hollowed well,
dirt on
          spitted
                     ground

one cold night,
i run until
forest trees
                strip
                       bearings

sharp tongues of crows
bite pale lips

pointed claws of tiger
scrape smooth skin

bare and free,
fire in my belly,
spilling
          guts
                 blank page

Posted for D'verse Poets Pub - Wild hosted by Mark Kerstetter.  I enjoy writing under "another face", and letting my muse have a "run".  Writing balances my life as my job is analytical and very technical.  If I don't write, I think I will go crazy like the animals in the zoo.

Warm breath

sweaty palms, though autumn
as i concentrate on cues

signalling intention, i feel
your warm breath on my skin

your sun-streaked cheeks, sky blue
smile dazzles, but i was too intent

keeping my eyes fixed
on your wide open arms

missing a mid waist turn or
skipping yellow broken lines

would not do; no you want
to keep me on my toes, curled

and pining for you, beguiled
by rolling hills and unfastened bows

harder, i press to feel your
hands stroking my thighs,

your fullness and promise on my tongue
kindred soul, how can i resist you ?

tower lights by a thousands
chase you
in smoggy 10 lane freeway

but i see

your fire-lit eyes steady on me

as i drive home

Posted for D'verse Poets Pub- Changes hosted by Sheila Moore.   I have actually shared a recent big change in my life here but I thought of posting another write about driving to and from my office.   I see the sun rising on my way to work, and sun setting on my way home. I welcome change and challenges in my life  ~

Unrehearsed

beside brick red fireplace
we click cold beer bottles
banal, polite conversations
of weather and cellphones

swirling around rented plush suite
cramped with eager beaver smiles
braving niceties, we snort noises,
all considered politically correct responses

cocktails before dinner, warming up spiels,
karaoke bars, team sessions, until
near the program's end, we sneakily
slip away, with a red bottle of wine

laughing until we stop at my doorstep,
lamplight fusing our shadows
you take my key and gently nudge
me inside, without a word

we hang up our black tailored coats
unrehearsed, unscripted, we embrace
awkwardly,  fumbling, entwining
in imperfect symphony

Author's Night:  I attended a company conference last week as part of my induction to my new job.   It was interesting to meet my new team, but my social skills can only take so much pleasantries.  The activity though provided great inputs to my writing. .. a part of my life that is unchanging still.

The other family

pale faced angel, i smile
innocent in my charm and guile

medium built among the four sons
my brown eyes and tilt of nose

hints at the same side of the river,
spilled by the lust driven man

Dad or old man, as all the children
call him affectionately, without disdain

for his humble work of hands, unpretentious
affections for women; he welcomes young girl

his daughter, me

given away by my mother, simple maid,
too ashamed of her deeds or sins of flesh

the young boys peer at my thin shoulders
almost malnourished, they hold their tongue

in great respect to their mother, forgiving,
brave of heart, still loving her wayward husband

the eldest son offers a candy to break the ice,
i take it with a grateful nod, my small hands

eagerly unwrapping the simple treat, as if
discovering the meaning of home and family

lineage i discover today, arriving with my
beaten up bag and old pair of shoes, my only pair

hunger pains ebb with thoughts of:  roof
over my head, and a man called "Dad" to care for me

shyly, i bow my head in deference to my "new" family
as i am told that i now carry the family name

politely, i nod as conversations continue
with or without my murmurs; i try not to stand out

with my coarse clothes and blistered hands,
simple words from years lived in shadowy guilt

later, alone in my small room, i unhook
locket with a picture of my birth mother

though officially, she is "dead"
her reckless passion flows in my veins

i don't belong here.

not today.

ever.

Posted for D'Verse Poets Pub - The Other.    Imagine that person who is other than you, and think about how you might construct a dramatic monologue in poetry. Hosted by Mark Kerstetter.   For this prompt, I thought of writing about meeting "the other side of the family" - she is my unofficial half-aunt, if there is such a term.

Happy to be linking up today.

Still beautiful

i set aside my green bag
containing red rosary beads,
spare change, plane ticket

unfolding white coarse sheets
i spread it across lumpy bed
too small for both of us

jagged mirrors on ceilings
collage of past diversions,
or maybe transgressions

we both ignore as we
kiss gently at first trying to
remember how it was, were

heated embrace, bodies fitting
as we rock to familiar rhythm,
each vigorous thrust an imprint,

amidst crowded narrow streets,
beggars, hustlers, mayhem traffic,
uncollected garbage, polluted air

warming satiny skin as your tongue
probes, taste my pink buds,  until
gripping arms, i cry out  ...

home

bitter sweet tamarind, red yellow papaya,
palm trees decorating brown walls
dividing, segregating rooms; we unstick

labels stitched on our foreheads,
revelling in our bodies pulsating, still
an unbroken refrain despite oceans apart,

then with gentle warm fingers
you cup my pale face, saying

i am still beautiful

tracing lines under your tired eyes,
i kiss your rough, blistered palms
whispering softly,

no, you are ....

Posted for D'Verse Poets Pub - Poetics.   The prompt is to write about a Taboo Subject - How to be Fearless and Nothing Else.    This post came from visiting my family in another part of the world. I spent close to two weeks there, happy and sad times.  Though I am presently living in Canada,  it saddens me to see the country mired in greed, bitter politics, and poverty, despite the "progress".  Nevertheless, it is my motherland, a beautiful place for me.

Tree

i walk up the sloping hill
summer heat prickling pale skin
fallen frangipani petals on ground

mango tree stood at the crest
same spot for last five decades
now bare to the bones, drooping

grimacing at each labored breath
dark lines under arms, draping
tubes of oxygen, unwanted leis

small brown roots, shrubs peek
under long shadows, tender shoots
vibrant green, facing the sun

nearby a narrow river flows
red stone lantern gazes serenely
gray stepping stones, rock garden

bonsai, mosses hush in eye of storm
boulders of white pebbles stack
neatly like rosary beads in my hand

Author's Note:   I traveled last week to visit my ailing parents, specially my mom.  Yesterday after her surgery, she is now recovering, and hopefully out of the woods.
Hope to visit you soon~

Shattered

unblinking

still

gray walls
tremble

windows
shatter

into
thousand
fragments

spiraling

falling

into
dark

bottomless

well
of tears

Under the glass

I wipe
red lipstick stain on
brim of white coffee cup

combing
long dark hair, unbraided
not a strand uncurled

I whisper
words lest secrets echo
beyond walls of silvery glass

gazing
familiar reflection yet
a stranger in the mirror

imperfections under blush of powder
suntan glossing over deep emotions

I breathe
under your skin,
warm dulcet voice calling your name

Do you see me ?

Woman in black

black mourning dress drapes
slim frame like gossamer mantilla
failing to hide sparkle in brown eyes
spring in step walking along the road

carrying small bag, she smiles rummaging
contents – lipstick case, wallet, keys, camera
and map – always the map of city.
finding it, unfolds it slowly like precious

love letter, perusing every inch, line,
bumps, veins, grooves, towers, walls
smoothing and checking hours, schedules
no detail escapes her warm inquisitive fingers

burdened with caring for an ailing
spouse, she now stumps city’s streets
like young girl rediscovering a lover
wanting to get lost in his warm belly, deep tunnels
so vibrant and intriguing, making her forget

white walls with disinfectant smell
memories of spouse’s death wish, 20 years long
when struck with paralysis, he became half a man
never letting her forget he was once that man.

she now fidgets with gold band in ring finger
just 4 more months until I can wear bright
summer clothes, she says.  Pin sunflowers
straw hat, butterfly brooch in silky dress.

waving the map, I watch her board red bus
window seat, she presses against murky glass
breasts heaving against engine's pulse
she breathes in sweat, dirt from lover’s arms,
her ardor greater each passing day.

Real life experiences fascinate me so I took a widow's story and gave it my own interpretation.  It is customary for some cultures to wear mourning clothes (of either black or white) for one year.

In Memoriam

the phone calls that never came
letters and notebooks unopened
toys stacked neatly in boxes

winds blew strongly that day
leaves and flowers wilted on ground
from fires of hate or fervent faith
i still don't know until now

what i remember still are your laughing eyes
tender touch of hands on my shoulders
childish stories that made me smile

fallen from the tree of life
i light a candle today in memory
of love and gratitude

That woman

she is full of allure
sultry black eyes
dark teasing lips

brimming of theatrics
a day with her
drama and angst

unsatisfied with
my silent affections,
tossed gift of pearls
out into street

I play the sax
cool tunes to woo
but no, she wants my
bold wordy intentions

how do i begin
tell her she got me at
palm of her hand

now she is gone
chasing madly after
hobo down the street
