In Memoriam

the phone calls that never came
letters and notebooks unopened
toys stacked neatly in boxes

winds blew strongly that day
leaves and flowers wilted on ground
from fires of hate or fervent faith
i still don't know until now

what i remember still are your laughing eyes
tender touch of hands on my shoulders
childish stories that made me smile

fallen from the tree of life
i light a candle today in memory
of love and gratitude

  2. nicely written poem. that was a black day in human history, but when the shock faded a strong sense of unity lingered. we still remember the fallen and the traumatized living too, with mournful hearts but in silent prayer that never such things happen to anyone in this world no matter nationality or religion.

btw thanks a lot for commenting on my blog. its really appreciated. :)

  5. "from fires of hate or fervent faith "
What contrast in this line. Makes one wonder why hate or faith emerges?

  6. Such universality in these moments you describe. Yes, a candle. There is still so much darkness. A fitting "in memoriam." Nicely done.

  7. We also hold a candle with you for all our near and dear ones who died on that awful day.

  8. Touching Tribute.

Cowardly acts that take innocent lives need to be fought from wherever we are.

  9. Yeah it surely effected the world over, great tribute.

(I was here when you were at mine, same time..haha)

  10. The things that were expected to be, thought to be, hoped to be -- weren't. The candle is about hope - and lighting it is about belief that we go on.

    Good poem.

  16. Very touching. I pray that days like that never repeat themselves and yet here in Delhi , there was a harsh reminder just a few days ago.

  19. I have to agree with Claudia. I lit a candle 3 poems ago. I think reading what people feel is more powerful than whatever they can put on TV today. Very moving.

  29. The candle could be a point of unity someday. 'fires of hate or fervent faith' whenever I see those or hear them in same paragraphs all I can see is lack of education or fanaticism.
    Automatically my mind just interprets
to that definition. I believe both are relative.
