Eve's garden

you turn my ribs
stone to water

with every kiss
a tendril is born unto the garden

where yellow tongues of sun
taste of overripe tangerine

soft moss and purple maple leaves
grow out of my mouth

every part of me
is alive & fragrant as lime wood

twined in your nakedness
I am a season, replete with your knowing

your name
smolders under my chest

majestic
flowing through the streams of my veins

then why do I
bleed over the lines of your palms?

  1. Whew. There is a bit of smoke coming off this one. Think Eve's garden is going to be a happening place tonight. Ha. Killer close too.

  2. I like "with every kiss a tendril is born unto the garden." What a beautiful image that brings to mind. And the question at the end makes the reader's mind wander.... Nice one, Grace.

  3. Oh i like this.. actually feel the walk into that garden of yours is not just the tender part of love, but in the passion there is a darkness and hunger, the blood in the last line really put weight of the price for bliss.

    1. I debated adding that last line but thought that I wanted to make my poem unexpected & open ~ Thanks for the visit ~

  4. Oh hell yes, your close is double-killer. An incredible piece to be sure, too many good lines to pick one. Eve has been blamed for so much over the centuries, it is good to share for a moment in her humanity.

  6. Oh Grace, tis a lovely smouldering write.

The blood on his palm? Even then womankind blamed for his bite of the apple?

    Kind regards

  7. Oh my, the lushness of it, so soft, so easily sensual. Eden was truly a magnificent garden in your pen. It makes that ending question all the more harsh as ice water thrown upon a sleeping body.

  8. wow!!! wow!!! wow!!!

Where did you come up with these brilliant lines:

    you turn my ribs
    stone to water

    with every kiss
a tendril is born unto the garden

    where yellow tongues of sun
    taste of overripe tangerine

The poetry you write always breaths new elements into the readers eyes.

    Beautiful words. :)

  9. It's a deliscious, sensous read until that last line. Then Eve's, and all women's, situation becomes fully realized. Really well done, Grace.

  11. Steamy and sultry. Filled with fleshy goodness. Writing like this is the best erotica for the senses.

  12. "you turn my ribs
    stone to water

    with every kiss"

Sheesh. That's a pretty hot poem all by itself, girl!

The closing is equally powerful. So much lust, love, and sadness woven through the lines of your poem and his hands, I presume.

  29. I am loving more and more poems like yours, Grace, with couplets that have sparse words dense with imagery and meaning. My favorite is:

    your name
    smolders under my chest

    I have felt that before.
