The strawberry and pepper game

I braid strawberries

on my hair,

vanilla blue shaken, I

preen searching for right

combination of

pivot & percussion

spices & silence

much like

sugar & tomatoes

hot chili & chocolates

salt & freshly ground coffee

to say my words

pepper-dashed, sultry cream on your tongue.

My head is a pickle of contradictions

Which you don't mind at all

I pucker my lips

bloody ruby, half bowl of moon,

& wait for you to

read my scrumptious invitation.

One thing I'm not:  brain-

washed lobster fingerlings in your soup-

  1. This is multi-layered. I particularly liked the part about your head being a "pickle of contradictions" - I think that's a damn good way to describe the human brain :-)

  5. Your closing lines were killer, & somehow within the crustacean eros, the fruit beret, you aroused our ardor & ramped up our vigor; nice job with the prompt; but no lobsters in the jockstraps of my poem; smile.

  7. oh... love how you ended with one thing your not... kudos for the use of lobster... smiles...

and the sensuality of your words being pepper-dashed, sultry cream on the tongue--brilliant! I have long enough hair on top to braid, all the berries would be eaten by the time I try to weave them tho... hahah

  9. A feast of unconventional images. The pepper dashed words, pickle of contradictions and those brain-washed lobster fingerlings in the end.. very creative and well-penned. :-)

  26. Love your connections, Grace. One - tomato and sugar-reminds me the preserve I made used to out of small tomato...very interesting contradiction, but how about sweet potato...

  27. One thing I can say for sure - you are definitely not a brainwashed lobster fingerling in a soup. you are much too creative to be one. :-)
on a more serious note, your poem reminded me of a panecotta. I was surprised by the blend of pepper and cream in a dessert, yet it worked, just like your combinations here. :-)
