On a Friday morning

i drain glass of wine
quickly,
as you tell me change of plans

masking disappointment,
i smile, lifting your spirit,

outside it rains
road looks long,
endless hill of battles,
seesaw of expectations versus reality

tipping sky grey

outside, two birds fly,
wingtips of symmetrical feathers,
embracing rough wind

unsteadily,
we reach for each other

  2. And that's what love is all about isn't it... compromise. Covering up disappointments to please each other and make each other happy instead of pleasing ourselves. The endless hills reminded me of one hill in particular here we used to love driving up and then down... :)
    Lovely write Grace.

  5. So nice. Together we can travel that road. You infuse romance with reality so well. I smiled at the picture at the end. That's just so sexy.

  6. This is so sweet: "masking disappointment,
    i smile, lifting your spirit"

Sounds like it turned out to be a nice change of plans, if you're literally talking about staying home in bed together (due to rain) as opposed to going out for a day trip. But there's an undertone of major changes coming up, the greyness/sadness regarding the unknown ... but no matter what, you'll face the rough winds together, like the birds.

  8. Balance in so many spheres of reality. I'm so partial to the second to the last stanza, though. The perfect symmetry of those bird feathers. Thanks, Heaven.

  15. With the difficulties that the Hubby and I are facing in this, our 23rd year of marriage, it is the lines about hills and battles and expectations vs reality that speak to me. We never knew, back in our early days that he would become disabled and each day is a new battle for us. But our enduring love over so many years helps us to adjust to our new reality in the face of our lost expectations.

    Thank you for the words.

  16. Excellent poem ... seeking balance. I read through many comments, they were really excellent. In many ways there is comfort to be found therein. I hope that the flying becomes a bit smoother.

  25. This is so delicate and compassionate. I love the embrace and anticipation as weight on a seesaw. Someone once told me that a relationship would not work without sacrifice and compromise, so true. I thought of that moment here. Many many blessings. :)

  32. The balance in your poems, as in this one, comes in the human encounter, the embodied reality of each seeking each for completion. I like that very much.
