The arc

I pluck a thousand feathers
So the quill can spill my rue
Into a page, pressed smooth by the sun

I torch the black and heavy coins
Melting in a crucible of oil, water and flux,
Into a gold key, unlocking door

Subtracting missteps,
Dividing pride into raindrops
Multiplying seeds into fields,

I place my hand on your cheek
Curved, soft, oval to my square lines
A step, even a tiny arc
Exponentially

changes me,

changes us,

Equal to a thousand moments
Into a jar, we clamp with our hands,
Now entwined

and D'verse Poets Pub:  Tripping the cosmos - Nothing grand as tripping the galaxy but a comment on my everyday life.  In my office we use a system called ARC that calculates quote full of numbers and percentages of risk.   A slight change in the inputs, changes the outcomes.

Thank you to everyone who greeted me on my first blogoversary.   I appreciate your lovely words and encouragement.

  6. I think this is the kind of poem that balances science on its fingertips and spins it just for fun--I was reminded several times of the earliest science, alchemy, in the way you described the process of introspection and trust. And congratulations on a year in the blogosphere--it's a life-altering thing. (Hopefully in a good way--at least I think so.)

  9. The littlest difference produces consequences and characteristics uniquely down the road. That is a really interesting picture too.

  10. i like this line:

    even a tiny arc
    Exponentially

of course, depending on the scale, and the type of graph paper you are using, yes, a tiny arc can be exponential

  11. This is lovely, and thought provoking. I kept thinking of Fate as I read, wondering how much is ours and how much is predestined. That tiny arc may be a much greater force that we suspect, its effect unavoidable.

Thanks for your visit at my blog.

  12. Can a butterfly flapping its wings in Texas create a hurricane in the Pacific Ocean? Some armchair philosophers assert this extreme example of chaos theory. Your poem expresses a similar assertion, the interconnectedness of actions that can cascade into more than was ever expected.

  14. Love that fourth stanza - and the thought of all it leads to.

  15. This is so lovely and tender. Your striking images just carry me into realms of oneness that keep me going into further desire. I think love is indeed that one intangible that science will never explain and that poetry only begins to fathom, though it itself never suggests that it can provide an answer to what it is that makes or comprises love.

  17. although the mathematical words kinda broke the lovely sensuality of the pictures and images in the verses for me, I do like the poem, my dear!

  19. I echo the others who have said how well executed this is. I found it almost religious in tone. Loved this:

Melting in a crucible of oil, water and flux,
Into a gold key, unlocking door

  20. this reflects just how delicate life is....everyting is intrinsiacally linked- change one variable, inadvertantely change another- some poeple might call it chaos theory- but on the flipside- it could just be called life....whcih you can't apply theory too- this was beautifully written by the way- the words tumbled as i read it.
