Beast

walk beside me my love,
uncaged, you are beautiful

heels click, clack, click, clack
paws thump, scratch, thump

it is not that i don't trust you
that i wrap you close my bosom,

where i can see your green eyes,
rage dark like waves on mudstone,

hear your lusty roar as my hand
grasps tight your throat, squeezing

pulsing beat upon pulsing beat, until
life and death dances on your tongue,

like warm golden honey, ruSH
more potent than coca leaves HIGh

SH...shush..no, it is because i don't
want to wake the wild beast

gr..grinding...gn..gnashing teeth
ch..chomping..cl..clawing veins of

your heart, if you step away,
after slaking your thirst, your fill of me

walk beside me my love, snap
chained,  you are even more

beautiful

  1. Excellent. I can really HEAR 'the beast.' Frightening but SO beautiful! There is definitely something about BIG cats.

  5. Love the pic! (Every tat a tiger!) Your voice is so strong here, just like the leashed beast...a wonderful play on the prompt.

  14. What I notice most about this piece is your control over line, phrasing and infusion of the sound qualities - you may call it a "fun write" but I see the skilled writer at work here.

  15. So good technically - and lines like

pulsing beat upon pulsing beat, until
life and death dances on your tongue,

    really did it for me!

  16. What Kerry O'Connor said was what I was thinking. All writers should have such fun!

I am SO impressed the way you caught the essence of both of those writing prompts for this piece. It is wildly good!

  17. Better the devil you know eh!
Love but fear to unleash the beast within. Fabulous write!

  18. "pulsing beat upon pulsing beat, until
life and death dances on your tongue"

    I really like that!

  20. hot, hot, hot!!! Your use of onomatopoeia is perfect in word choice and placement throughout this poem. My favorite lines(aside from the onomatopoectic ones) are -
    if you step away,
after slaking your thirst, your fill of me

walk beside me my love, snap
    chained,

    Very wild!

  21. Wow, so powerful. Uncaged, and then chained. I could hear the snap of the leash fastener, closing.

  23. Love this part especially:

    "like warm golden honey, ruSH
more potent than coca leaves HIGh"

  30. Mudstone is a great thing I like to tromp in by the ocean's shore with my unchained wild rabbits who think they are tigers.

NICE poem!! I like how you always show us so many different ways of talking about love relationships.
