I want to fly back
to pineapple kissed skies
coconut tree lined beaches
home made ice cream and sweet rice cakes.
I said goodbye
my motherland almost 8 years ago
But come winter,
all I want is to curl in her warm bosom.
Why did I migrate to this cold city?
I'm a summer gal.
Posted for: Poets United : Goodbye and Flash Fiction Friday : For the G-Man. It took me almost 2 hours to come home tonight because of the snow. Oh well..such is life ~
Canada is a land of immigrants. According to census figures, an estimated 1,110,000 immigrants arrived in Canada between 01 January 2001 and 16 May 2006. During this time period, these immigrants accounted for 17.9 percent of the total foreign-born population and 3.6 percent of Canada's total population of 31.2 million people. The largest proportion of immigrants who arrived between 2001 and 2006 were born in Asia (including the Middle East) at 58.3 percent. In contrast, only 12.1 percent of immigrants for the same duration ending in 1971 were born in Asia.

Yeah when they get a shot of the cold they sure aren't long scurrying for some place warm, but than neither am I. Never knew there were that many either.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be able to have a second home. I especially love the "pineapple kissed skies".
ReplyDeleteI ran the opposite way, and you can't make me go back North(not as far as you are, but far enough) Loved the flavors in this one, Heaven.
ReplyDeleteI feel for ya, it IS January, and we DO live in the North.
ReplyDeleteLoved for wishful 55 Grace...
Thanks for playing, and please have a Kick Ass Week-End
I love this... especially the first stanza.
ReplyDeleteLove your poem, Heaven. I'm no stranger to nostalgia, either.
ReplyDeleteAlso, explored your blog a bit, 'a bit', because cannot handle much more right now - lots of good, hot writing there. Not to mention the pictures...
Thanks!
I love this!
ReplyDelete:)
The only good thing about the snow and cold is that it makes me appreciate the warmth all the more :)
ReplyDeleteLoved your 55!
when i lived in FL it was pretty amazing in the winter...i dont mind it if we could get some snow...but the cold without the snow is just ridiculous...smiles....really lovely told heaven...curl in it blossom...smiles.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me of how good we have it in the South. I'm a mid-western transplant. Been here over 20 years...not sure I could handle the Kansas winters anymore. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteWarm piece Heaven. That snow you are taking about is hitting me tomorrow. It's already cold as he-be here now. It's going to warm up tomorrow, to dump about six inches of snow on us.. lol. But after the spring warm winds come in, all is forgiven ...
ReplyDeletevivid imagges and a sweet pain described :)
ReplyDeleteThe image was an inspiration for a post on my blog .. do check !
Me too, I hate the cold. You recreate your motherland well in just a few phrases.
ReplyDeletenice to read!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I know how you feel: I lived in the tropics for 3 years and even though I missed having real seasons, I now miss the beaches and palm trees in the winter...
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteBut I do love winter too!
Not having much of it so far!
Love the "pineapple skies". It is snowing here today too......I hear you. But I do love all the seasons.
ReplyDeleteFrom how you've described it I'd want to go back too!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you inspire the reader to ponder the life of the immigrant
ReplyDeleteweather being one of the many changes
So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThere was a dreamy sadness at the beginning that I just loved.
Mood-effective, beguiling, excellent - perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour first verse here is wonderful. Almost as good as going back? Possibly better?!
ReplyDeleteYou had me with that first line, especially since I woke up to a snowstorm this morning, enjoyed greatly.
ReplyDeletebeautiful thoughts
ReplyDeleteYes, you are from a magical land!
