To the sea

take me
to the shore,
lay me down the sands

warmed by afternoon sun,
scented by coral reef spray

listen to the roar of waves,
lilt and bass of whales and dolphins

carry me to the deep end,
where fear pulses and fervor pierces,

stirring limbs into fins, arms into weeds,
awakening feral heart,

quivering for salt,

pour me,
unto the
naked
sea

Author's Note:   This is a revision of this post in my other blog but the source of my words came from this picture.   I live and work in the concrete city jungle so this post is just a creative expression for me.   I am also participating in the National Poetry Writing Month but my poems will be posted in my other blog.

  17. Very much enjoyed reading this. Each line, leads one together with narrator closer to the sea, then into it, to merge with the nature of it. There's a feeling the ocean could well be the universe.

  21. I've never seen the sea Grace, and I've never even dreamed about it. Your poem comes to me as I would expect the waves to. I'm also participating in NaPoWriMo, hope I can finish it this year! I'm posting prompts to my secondary blog, The Sky Clears, just in case you want to visit.

May your month be filled with inspiration. <3

  22. I've always said that whenever I move away from here, it will be to a city right there where the sand and ocean are. Hopefully I'll be able to afford owning a house right on the beach, but just being near the ocean is an uplift. Really a great job here, love the thoughts that it brought about. Thanks.

  29. This is wonderful, Heaven. I especially loved:
    stirring limbs into fins,
    arms into weeds,
    awakening feral heart,

    And everything else too :)

  30. The concrete jungle and all of its cigarette smoke and pollution is intolerable I find.

"I must go down to the sea again
To the lonely sea and the skies"

    And I am.

    Nice poem.

  31. take me, sea.
sometimes the first and last line know a piece's soul. so i added the comma:)

  32. Heaven, this is gorgeous. So sensory and sensual. And a shape poem too. I like Ed's suggestion of the comma, too.

I have another blogger from Ontario as my guest childhood blogger today. She writes prose.

Thanks for your lovely lines which I'll remember today.

  36. Sometimes it take a concrete jungle to find exactly what it needs in the naked sea whose beach can be simply another's embrace. As a sea-creature, I loved the fluid element you sing. - Brendan

  37. This is so sensual and evocative. I can feel all the sensations you describe, from the physical ones to the emotional ones. This has a natural rhythm that carries one from first to last. Very nice work.

  38. "stirring limbs into fins, arms into weeds,
    awakening feral heart,"

There's something about the sea that seems to draw one in, perhaps from some subconscious level that this is where life began. While reading can almost feel the warm sand, smell the salt spray. Love the feeling your words evoked!

  39. Intriguing picture, brilliantly illuminated by your evocative and sensual poem.

  40. I just love the sea...defo holds a special place in my heart. I think its always such a mysterious and romantic place so full of metaphor and comparison.

listen to the roar of waves,
lilt and bass of whales and dolphins

Your descriptions rise and fall like the waves of the sea- and this adds to the real oceanic quality of this piece. very very nice

  41. The sea is such a place for renewal and quenching the thirst for knowldege, I see that here, to be at one, at peace, alive, most of all, awakened...
Superb piece, in awe :) xoxo

  42. The sensuality of your poem is always so delicately sung. I think passion should always mirror the waves, undulating over us with rhythms and times reminiscing on ancient tides. Your poem brings home that tie between earth and soul.

  43. Pour me in too, Baby!! And never let me have to leave that shore. I'll take a nice little cottage there, thanks.
