Five chords to rain

Gold Teardrop by Anne Marie Zilberman

When the pink and gold specks of dawn illuminated the small room, she was ready to let go.   To stop clinging to what can be.  To cease dragging her feet for another uncomfortable night at the hospital couch.  To will her eyes to sleep and hanker for dreams that would not come.  She was so tired from worry and exhaustion of searching for the cure to ease his pain.   The battle is now coming to a close.   After a long night, his eyes had become tranquil, as if he had found his haven.

Closing her eyes, a teardrop falls.   The chorus of spring is melancholy.   Two, three, now a cluster of rain.  Four, five, she is drowning in the perfume of sorrow.

low river tide
a lone seagull glides above -
white bleeds from my eyes

  1. nice...great title...the perfume of sorrow as well...
interesting contrast in the mood of spring as well which is typically
renewal and refreshing, but for her rain...so hard as well hoping for that
cure only to be thwarted...again and again...

    vivid short poem as well.

  4. I love how you have created exactly the right balance between the haiku and the prose. I think the form lends itself perfectly to melancholy - still there is some solace to let go. To go ahead, and sometimes just sleep.

  5. Weariness can be overpowering sometimes, but it is good and such a relief when tranquility eventually comes.

  9. An amazing response to the prompt, perfect poetic pitch--yes melancholy but still hopeful, that positive spirit will always find, as does life, a way to express itself. This is now one of my favorites of your poems; so much to point to, to savor; read it four times; weeped, smiled, caught me breath.

  11. I remember that feeling of being ready to let go. Mine tastes of the scent of flowers, ripples with butterflies and is tinted with soft sigh of an evening laying itself across my shoulders. Pain has so many textures. This is so moving, so very moving.

  21. Sad. The emotion is strong. Drowning in the perfume of sorrow is an incredible phrase - as if it's both good and bad which, of course, is what sorrow is.. thought provoking and nicely written..

  26. This must be one of the hardest things for any person to do - to let go of a loved one who is suffering and ill like this. We know that their suffering will ease once they're gone, but it certainly doesn't make it any easier. Beautifully done Grace.

  34. Tenderly wrought...this transitional time carries so many facets of emotion and you've gathered this in so well...artistically, too...I love the vision you bring with the haiku portion...free bird gliding in the sky. Excellent, Grace!

  35. Beautiful, sad, and quite moving. The slow resignation and transition to mourning (at the dawn of morning, even) is singularly palpable. You describe this moment extremely well.
