Come rain, early & hasty
I am lean & bare as taproot
Come sun, wild as dandelions
Fingers seeding soft soil
Come lost with winter memories
But musky earth, thick of pine cones
& dewdrops until
Dawn crowns my hair with greening buds
You cup my face
As you would a flower, blooming
sturdy, bucking the cold spell
Weighing down full symphony of spring
I hear
anyway, echoing of samba nights
Lean closer as if I am holding
knot of your beating heart
The symmetry of our seasons
burns
Riding, cresting, falling
until
We are a single petal
Resting under boughs
pink against wood, lush of lavender sky
Where you are, I am
Ink, color, swelling honeycombs
Fragrance of new day
seeps, awakening
Because I want to do with you
what spring does with the cherry trees.
“I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees.”
― Pablo Neruda, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair
This is my third time to use this quote every spring time, smiles ~ I never tire of it nor of Neruda poems.

ReplyDeletedang...that last couplet too...if it does not make you shudder it a good way
you must be dead wood, just saying...ha...
Just like the upheavals in our life, seasons too come and go, the best of them " spring".
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, come rain indeed. A beautiful poem...to accompany a wonderful quotation. Oh, I love - love - love the sensual last couplet of your poem, Grace.
ReplyDeleteI have always been a firm believer that there is unimaginable beauty in all seasons. Each and every one. You really did a great job of capturing them here and also of drawing parallels to life :)

ReplyDeleteLovely poem. I was not familiar with the Neruda quote, but in an instant, it is my favorite. Thank you for sharing both.
ReplyDeleteyour writes always have a natural rhythm to them, and this one is no different - the whole poem has a brilliant cadence, a spring song indeed, and "The symmetry of our seasons" is so so good!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a refreshing visual of words you've captured here.
ReplyDeleteI like this poem very much. Greatly written my friend. :)
Your poem is wonderful. I am certain Neruda would approve. I never tire of him either.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Grace. I feel the same way about Neruda...one of my favs.
ReplyDeleteloved the movement in this... hoping to see cheery blossoms this weekend
ReplyDeleteThat was rich and beautiful. :-)
ReplyDeleteahhhh. You cannot take this one too far, not after earth thick with pine cones ....
ReplyDeleteSo sensual, love it.
ReplyDeleteThe fecundity wafts off the page, the sensuality, the gentleness, the love-making all swirl like a fairy's stew, & the smell of it is impossible to resist. Love the lines /riding, cresting, falling/until/ we are a single petal. A grand use of the Neruda mainstay, and lovely cuddling of the prompt.
ReplyDeletelove this beautiful spring song...and a wonderful use of the quote to create this beauty....
ReplyDeleteLusty, sensuous, joyful! It is a fantastic quote, you are entitled to use it as many times as you like!

something magical about this...
It feels like you have known a deep true love to write this, there is no wistfulness in it.
ReplyDeleteThis poem has been so appropriately written that the quote appears to be a part of the poem. "Come lost with winter memories" took my breath away.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very cool quote. The part about "The symmetry of our seasons
