Perhaps the tulips
Are like a puma, silent and starving
Under the snowed-in light-
For tonight the twilight
Is cold, forgetful
Like my hands, finding things to be loved-
I search for your trail among
newspaper headlines, cut up like
-well-travelled streets-
under the pillows of hospital beds,
-breathing & opening seeds in confusion-
even in the sonnet of a classic poet-
Alas, you are nowhere to be
I stop looking
& let you come
Unbidden, the liquid measure of you
Impossible
Like beauty of a rose

Interesting construction indeed, I hope those words were lysol-ed before leaving the germy hospital feed haha
ReplyDeleteThe process was interesting, ha ~ Thanks Pat ~
Deletenice..i like the tulips like pumas..great image and the searching for their trail among newspaper headlines...cut up...so you even brought the dada-ismus into your verse directly..nice..
ReplyDeleteThat is what happens when it is random words choosing each other, ha ~ Yes, I had cut up some news for this exercise ~ Thanks Claudia ~
Deletewow i got to start reading your newspaper..its much more poetic than mine...smiles...and look and look we will for them, that is for sure..it is when we stop trying so hard they often find us...if they will...smiles.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same headlines I am sure ~ Thanks Brian ~
DeleteLike your poem. The last line: "Unbidden, the liquid measure of you Impossible"... sounds mysteriously...:)
ReplyDeleteThank you ~
DeleteYou took to this prompt/form like a fox to a chicken house, and the meal was raw, unreasonable & DaDarrific. Thanks to Charles for the guidance, and you for the fun ride.
ReplyDeleteThank you Glenn ~ A fun exercise, I would say ~
DeleteThis is fantastic. I love the tulips like pumas.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan ~
DeleteSensual and romantic words, even if they were random. Sexy use of "liquid measure"
ReplyDeleteI assure you that is not my intention, ha, ha ~ Thanks Frank ~
DeleteJust beautiful, Grace. I tried to find a favorite stanza, but couldn't choose one. I do like the idea of searching everywhere and then have the one searched for come unbidden. This is the way of things sometime, and you WROTE it well!
ReplyDeleteIsn't writing like this ~ Thanks Mary ~
DeleteWhat intensity you found from the randomness! Finding things to be loved is like being found when lost in the woods: sit still and smell the flowers. Very good!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan ~
Deletethat ending sounds deliciously naughty to me :)

ReplyDeleteCold, forgetful like my hands. That is a wonderful arrangement of words, fully descriptive in only a few syllables. Very well done!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, girl. I LOVE this, like insanely LOVE THIS OPENING:
ReplyDelete"Perhaps the tulips
Are like a puma, silent and starving"
Really, this is just SO amazing, Grace.
Love the ending also:
"I stop looking
& let you come
Unbidden, the liquid measure of you
Impossible"
What passion lurks within these words... Beautifully written!
ReplyDelete..Grace, interesting to compare a tulip from a puma... i never look at 'em that way... but then, no two poets can see what the other one sees and vice versa... and hey, you have many references there... writing on one material was a struggle for me already but you've got many... ha... smiles... loved this...
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely, Grace, beautiful combinations, and you manage very human feelings. k. This is Kariin--manicddaily. k.
ReplyDeleteLoved the way it flows. Waiting, yearning, very beautifully combined!stitching senses into an abstract!
ReplyDeleteThis is really exquisite.
ReplyDeleteFrom your random source material you have made a thing of beauty - which I have come to expect from you, in any form.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! I'd love to know how you found the words/phrases because the whole flows together so well!
ReplyDeleteLovely re-creation, but too good for a dadaist! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteFor tonight the twilight
ReplyDeleteIs cold, forgetful
Like my hands, finding
things to be loved
There can be nights that are lesser than most of other nights. One gropes along looking for an opening. Quite familiar, Grace! Been through such!
Hank
I love the prompt, Heaven. You were able to create such beauty from it. As always, thank you!
