Sonnet: When love conquers distance

I say goodbye now with bittersweet tears
The ten days have gone so swiftly like sands
Blown away by your golden smile.   You spear
My chest with longing.  Come and hold my hands

One last time.  Before I board the airplane

I draw a kiss, long & deep.  How my pulse
Quickens & flames with your soft touch.  Insane
I am to believe 'tis love, not mad impulse

Shadows inside me, wounds long ago, flee

Doubts crippling my words, fade & disappear
With you, mornings become glorious to see
Dappled blue-pink, I dream of you so near

So close I hear you whisper a sacred

Vow, Soon !  Our lives, twining, undivided !

  4. Ah.. what a wonderful sonnet.. and so great it's based on a real story.. I think it's amazing that real love is formed on blogging or twitter... and I love the two comments above.. so much happens at an airport.. and I still recall when you could follow each other to the gate which was even more amazing...

  10. Romance - there's no better use for a sonnet, and this one is lovely. Purists might quibble about your pulse/impulse rhyme and a couple of word order inversions that are there to mainitain the rhyme scheme ...

    but I won't ... smiles

  12. Grace, you've captured a piece of my life in this work, written as though for me. My sweetheart lives across the country, and those airport partings are so lovingly intense... my heartbeat accelerated as I read it. My sonnet today also speaks of coming together across the distance. I enjoyed this thoroughly.
