Of spring dreams

Peel back the grey,
for winter is long & bare

of tulips, daffodils, roses
crimson as the sun

Snuff this lonely candle
until watercolors brim the canvas

Insatiable & lush
of colors bright as tangerine

The day ripens like a fruit
whilst night unfolds emerald garden

Hold me in your arms
like a spring bouquet, my love

  3. Dear, I think you've used all of my favourite poetic images and words in this one: tulips, roses, emerald, crimson, winter, daffodils, love, brim, lush, tangerine....

  4. Oh, if only the winter gray could be pulled back to reveal the depth of color that is spring and summer. At least we know colors will always be seen again...come spring.

  8. Here it has been gray and dull for days on end so your craving for colors is something I can identify with. But I also like how you express that spring could be found in love!

  9. There is a beauty in the stillness, the silence of winter, but the traffic accidents, negotiating all the hills of the Northwest, the soaring utility bills, the ice & slush are not our friends; ah yes, hold me in your arms, in my waking dreams, when Spring's fecund overtures are welcomed as the breath of life; nice job.

  10. I feel something beyond winter to spring here, Grace. It feels as much a rekindling of love as it does the change of seasons. No matter which or both, it is a sensual and lovely bit of verse. ~ j

  21. I so remember those grey days with no sun. Here it is still green, a bit grey - no flowers. But I do like the soft light that filtered in through my windows when I lived up north… and I adored walking on a truly frosty morning when everything sparkled like crystal - really was magical. Although, I do like December "green" in the south.

  39. So gorgeous. I'll be re-reading this when the winter darkness tears at my soul which is inevitable. Just beautiful, Heaven. The days are so grey and flat it's hard to remember the light and the bright and your poem reminds me we can summon it at any time....if only in our hearts and imaginations.

  46. Must it be? That's what I asked myself--age 6--
when freezing, sneezing, wet with sweat on a windswept 10º F farmland hill
I took oath to be warm some day...thinking hell has got to be cold rather than hot!

So here in Florida, colors everywhere all the year,--sure, cold and hot at times--NEVER so cold, dreary, depressing as I remember.

Your work just brought these memories to me, and as day ripens, and night unfolds,
I hold my spring boquet, my love...
    BEAUTIFUL, Grace.
