What I want to do with you

Cherry Blossoms by Scarlet Verses

suddenly, the sky is a tumult,
scattering seeds in careless abandon,
tinged of bluest devotion, abounding -

you lay on my feet
not one blushing petal nor small bud
but a thousand pink-gaping pearls blooming-

i reach to kiss your lips, softer than snow
melting my walls into a cup, opening to receive
your words, sweet & hungry as a bee-

spread my hair among the leaves, steeped
of sun and morning dew drops. drink deeply
of my fragrance, write love letters on my
skin, naked earth-

i want to do with you
what spring does with the cherry trees.*

*Inspiration and line from Pablo Neruda :  Everyday You Play

"My words rained over you, stroking you.
A long time I have loved the sunned mother-of-pearl of your body.
I go so far as to think that you own the universe.
I will bring you happy flowers from the mountains, bluebells,
dark hazels, and rustic baskets of kisses.
I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees."

I have used this line before, but thought it fitting to post again after seeing the Japanese trees in full blooms over the weekend.

  16. I liked this very much, its passion. I liked your final line even knowing it was Neruda before you said so. My mentor once told me "Good poets borrow, great poets steal." There is another saying,"Nothing is originsl. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination." I would have liked it even if you had not been self-conscious and explaining.>KB

  22. I am not a fan of Neruda. Your poem is much better...more elegant and restrained..in fact I think his last line spoils it.
    Just sayin':)
    Lovely lovely poem.

  23. Spring fever talk and action, hmm? What a good match between you and Neruda!

  24. I love the way you capture the tone of the of the Neruda poem. I also love the way that nature and your psyche seem to fuse and you become part of its enduring cycle. The poem has such a sweet, lovely, lyrical music.

  32. "I want to do with you what spring does with cherry trees......." Wonderful line.... Pablo could certainly find them and I love how you seemlessly incrporated that into desire. Though now I want a slice of cherry pie. Or to be young again so I could sit in her branches and just feast on her fruit as I often did as a child.... Nice poem...
