On choices

the day is still
embrace by evening frost

at a distance,  slender trees lean
and stretch into the blue grey sky

stirring my spoon into white cereal bowl,
i sit in the silence, watching the sunlight

slowly melt the snow drops on red rooftops,
burnishing the ground into puddles of silver

the seasons of winter and spring
entangle and dance on my window frame

undecided which way to blow,
a leaf leaps and falls into the water basin,

blades stretching to savor the cold air,
veins throbbing with color and light

like the scrapbook of pictures gleaming
bamboo framed in coral shells, I see

as I sip my morning rose tea,
nothing else pulsates than this,

i am here,
it is my choice

“You have no choice but to choose."

  1. our lives are a series of choices...even if we choose to emulate the leaf and allow the winds to blow us where they will....or even in choosing not to choose...we do.

    1. Thanks Brian. I also wanted so show the contrast of the leaf on the ground, and on our choices.

  2. There is such a wonderful sense of peace here. The choice to live and be in the moment so precisely drawn and savored. That is what often happens, distracted by the busyness of our lives we simply cannot or will not choose to be for a while, be ourselves in the moment. And when open up to it, the moment in all of its fullness rests in us as we rest in it. Each thing is born anew, as we ourselves are new renewed by time.

    1. Thanks Charles. Your thoughts are very much appreciated. I am thankful that I live in the quiet side of the city, and have the time to reflect specially on weekends. Weekdays..I am too busy with all the distractions of work and family. Thanks again for hosting the prompt.

  3. I really like, as Mama Zen said, the quiet feel of this.

There is a sense of peace of mind and soul as I read it.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Peace,

PS, I'd add a photo if I knew how. ☺.

  4. This is beautiful, the whole thing, but I love these two lines:
"the seasons of winter and spring
entangle and dance on my window frame"
Of course, it isn't true here yet. Spring is an illusion, and the truth of it won't arrive until May, but in the meantime I can imagine winter and spring entangled and dancing!

  5. Choices are alternatives! Good or bad a choice is expected. The quietness in choices here is a measure of maturity and luck maybe.

the seasons of winter and spring
entangle and dance on my window frame

Some days are like that here right now as well. So beautifully expressed!
